The objectives of the founding Fathers of St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, included the training of students for excellence and leadership positions in the area of human endeavors. The College was also established to produce gentlemen in the society who are neither deficient in learning nor in character. The main objectives of the College are summed up in its motto written on the school badge, PRO FIDE ET SCIENTIA. This was interpreted to mean, ”Receive with open hearts, a superior education all you who pass through these portals for faith and knowledge are thine” or simply “With Faith and Knowledge”
On the 27th of January 1928 the College opened on the edge of the Hausa settlement in Obalende, Lagos.
